NPCI to Develop 5 Lakh Sq. Ft. Office Space in Mumbai BKC

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is planning to construct a 5 lakh sq. ft. office space in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), aiming to accommodate 5,000 employees, The project, expected to take three years to complete, will also serve as NPCI's consolidated headquarters, bringing together employees currently working in its rented BKC office and suburban locations in Jogeshwari and Goregaon.

With 1,000 of NPCI’s 2,000+ employees already based in Mumbai, the new facility will support the organization’s expansion in artificial intelligence and digital payments infrastructure. This development follows the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) allotting a commercial plot in BKC last year, reinforcing the area’s position as India’s premier financial hub, home to major institutions like SBI, ICICI Bank, Citibank, and SEBI. Meanwhile, NPCI continues to see rapid growth in digital payments, with UPI now facilitating 8% of overall credit card spends, while the RuPay gateway accounts for 16% of total credit card transactions, with half occurring via UPI.
